Alquería comes from the Arabic word, (قرية) Qarya, and refers to a small rural community or village. Alqueria de Rosales -Village of the Roses- is located near Puebla de Don Fadrique, a small 5,000 population village north of Granada province well conected to Murcia, Granada and Alicante international airports.
In 1993 the Romero family vested the land in trust, creating a recognized charitable Waqf, named Azzagra Cultural Association, registered under the Ministry of Interior as non profitable institution.
The Alqueria complex venue has 127 hectares rural farm located in the protected natural reserve of Sierra de Segura. It offers 4,000 sqm meters of facilities that includes the following:
Ample accommodations (100 people), mosque (550 sqm), conference hall (300 delegates), classrooms & library, conservation and research manuscript laboratories, restaurant, multi-functional sport area, swimming pool, horses area, agricultural and forestry land (over 8,000 fruit trees).
The existing facilities have been developed organically, achieving a major milestone in 2003, with the opening of the Al Baida mosque by HH Shaikh Sultan Al Qasimi ruler of Sharjah (UAE).
The Alqueria de Rosales has been featured in the BBC and CNN as well as in many other national and international TV channels and other media in recognition of its work in educational, cultural and research activities. Over the years, Alqueria de Rosales complex has significantly expanded its activities to host several national and international conferences.
Alqueria de Rosales is a Sharia compliant educational, cultural and residencial complex, which has been offering for more than 16 years learning and research activities with a special focus on preserving the Muslim heritage and legacy of Al Andalus.
Our library, with over 6,000 books, includes a private Islamic manuscript collection, wich is consedered one of the largest collections of Andalusian manuscripts owned by a Muslim Entity in Spain, and is one of our mayor charitable focus.
Alqueria de Rosales also offers an ample range of leisure services for those families, groups and individuals such cultural tours, sport activities, workshops and wellbeing services among others. The intention while creating economical sustainability is to create an exciting way of learning through our activities, always with a cultural, spiritual and natural focus.
The foundation focuses on educational aspects, contributing in to the dialogue and understanding of cultures and has done several agreements with Spanish universities such as University of Granada and Complutense University of Madrid . Also other international agreements of cooperation have been signed with the University of Al Azhar in Egypt, al Fath Institute in Damascus and the World Islamic Sciences & Education University in Jordan.
